American Indians - n. [AMM-erik-an IN-dee-uns] 1 A passive and calm tribe from Eden which specialise in positive magic. 2 People that Americans delight in placing into reservations.

Arturo - n. [ART-choor-o] A multi-clanning-forum-lurking-BWPlayers newsie with nice teeth; Enjoys watching the Tellitubbies with the lights off.

astonish - n. v. [ASS-ton-ish] Moderator on the killing grounds that are Lionhead's forums; Also likes a bit of IRC. 2 The act of startling someone.

Aztecs - n. [AZZ-teks] 1 A blood thirsty tribe from Eden. 2 An ancient civilisation from Central America, at least they were until those Spaniards found out they were loaded.

Bailey, Eric - n. [er-RIK BAY-lee] Lionhead's animator for Black & White.

Barnes, Jonty - n. [JON-tee BARNS] Ex-Bullfrog programming monkey; Now Senior programmer at Lionhead Studios.

Bass, Andy - n. [AND-ee BASE] An artist for Black & White.

Belegost - n. [BELL-ee-gost] 1 BWPlayers' (fan site) feature on their site designed to be a mecca for B&W clans. 2 Another name for a 'great fortress'. How quaint.

Beowolf - n. [BEE-o-wolf] Newsie for BWPlayers and is committed to trying to bite his own ear.

Big Blue Box - n. [BIG BLOO BOX] 1 A satellite developer of Lionhead's. 2 A box that's larger than most and is usually blue.

Black & White - n. adj. [BLAK and WITE] 1 A computer game that's being developed by Lionhead Studios and Peter Molyneux. 2 The two extremes of the visible spectrum.

Borkachev - n. [BORK-a-chev] BWPlayers newsie; Founded clan [CS]; Used to dress up in drag for medicinal purposes and to scare his pet goats "I AM BO PEEP, NAH NAH NAH".

Bravery, Christian - n. [KRIS-tee-an BRAVE-erry] Artist, modeller and animator for Black & White; Responsible for Black & White's original concept art.

Borthwick, Joe - n. [JO BORTH-wik] An in-house tester for Black & White; sometimes called 'Fred'.

Bullfrog - n. [BULL-frog] 1 Software development company abandoned and sold to Electronic Arts by Peter Molyneux so Lionhead Studios could be established. 2 A type of frog. Ugly looking things they are.

Catachan - n. [CAT-a-chan] 1 Anglo-Italian board moderator and Lao-Tzu staff member. 2 An Imperial homeworld in the popular board game iWarhammer 40,000'.

Campos, Cathy n. [KATH-ee KAMP-oss] Lionhead's public relations manager, and also the person left to pick up the PR pieces when Peter Molyneux makes a PR mistake.

Celts - n. [KELTS] A tribe from Eden that specialise in weather based spells; Also ginger. Urgh.

Chatelaine, Jeremy - n. [JE-remmy CHATE-ee-lane] A jack of all trades when it comes to programming in Black & White; Does spells, weather effects, artificial intelligence ...

Chunki - n. [CHUNK-ee] 1 Small ginger Irishman and Lao-Tzu staff member. 2 Pedantic bastard. 3 l337 way of spelling 'Chunky'. 4 A popular flavour of ice cream.

clan - n. [KLAN] 1 A collective of Black & White enthusiasts who unite to take on, and hopefully beat, other clans; Not to be confused with a 'krew'.

Cottier, Jean-Paul - n. [JEAN PAUL-COTT-ee-a] 3D Programmer at Lionhead Studios; Is partly responsible for Black & White's magnificant 3D landscapes.

citadel - n. [SIT-a-dell] A temple that's built for the Gods of Eden by villagers. It houses many rooms that control aspects of the game Black & White.

creature - n. [KREE-cher] The correct name for what the community commonly refers to as a 'titan'; But their hearts are in the right place; Known as 'Kreatur' in German (proper usuage), and not 'Titan', which sounds like a cleaning fluid.

dark newbie - n. adj. [DARK NOO-bee] 1 A member of the Black & White community with little knowledge or common sense. 2 A derogatory slang term.

demo, Black & White - n. [DEM-o] A mythological beast that the common populous desire but will probably never get.

Deptford, Daniel - n. [DAN-yel DEPT-ford] Lionhead programmer who'll eat anything, even cheestrings; Likes to idle on IRC a lot.

Drifter - n. [DRIFT-er] 1 Overly-confused newsie for affiliate site 'BWCenter'; Can't tell his arse from his elbow. 2 Person who screams like a big girl when he sees his name isn't mentioned in B&W Encyclopedias.

Durrant, Jamie - n. [JAY-mee DURR-ant] An artist for Lionhead, as well as their webmaster and administrator of their Forums.

Eden - n. [EE-den] 1 An idyllic land where the villagers of Black & White reside that is now ravaged by a bitter battle for supremecy. 2 A biblical location where some bloke called 'Adam' and some bird called 'Eve' used to live.

Egyptians - n. [EE-gypt-shuns] 1 A tribe from Eden that specialise in structural spells e.g. shield. 2 People from the North African country of Egypt; Live in funny triangular buildings with en suite booby traps.

Electronic Arts - n. [EE-lek-tron-ik ARTS] abbrv. EA, One of the world's largest publishers of computer software; Also publishing Lionhead's Black & White.

Electrico - n. [EE-lek-trik-o] 1 BWCenter webmaster. 2 A name that's overly-macho.

Evans, Alex - n. [ALLIX EVV-uns] 3D programmer for Lionhead Studios.

Evans, Richard - n. [RICH-ard EVV-uns] The man behind Black & White's artificial intelligence; Rumoured to have programmed his own friends when he was going through a loner phase; Last comment is bullshit, but does emphasise his skills.

Fixed - n. adj. [FIX-de] 1 Lionhead forum moderator and Photoshop wizard. 2 Something that is no longer broken.

Forums, Lionhead - n. [FOR-umms] 1 Local hangout for Black & White community. 2 The land where newbies fear to tread.

[GAYME TY-gerr] 1 BWCenter newsie; Believes manager of his site is a Lionhead employee masquerading as a mal-adjusted jellyfish selling double-glazed windows; Generally all round gullible guy (send him news to see if he posts it on site). 2 A name given to someone in the nymphomaniac community that's 'mad for it'.

Gathering, The - n. [GATH-err-ing] Much talked about software that is additional to Black & White and is a sort of advanced chat client.

Gesture Recognition System - n. [GEST-yer REE-cog-nition SIS-temm] 1 abbrv. GRS, Technology implemented into 'Black & White' that reduces the need for icons and buttons, and relies on mouse control/movement alone. 2 An undocumented protocol for hand gestures that usually denote bad feeling and aggression.

Guildford - n.[GILD-ford] A town located in 'Surrey', UK, home of Lionhead Studios and Electronic Arts' UK base.

God - n. [GOD] 1 Your role upon entering Eden. 2 Scrozzy. 3 Chunki. 4 Catachan, but only on Thursdays.

Greeks - n. [GREEKS] A tribe from Eden with no special abilities and are the frist tribe you'll discover in the singler player game 'Black & White Tales'.

hand - n. [HAND] The link between your computer and Eden.

Headless - n. adj. [HEDD-less] 1 Distinguished member of the BoE clan, and newsie for affiliate site 'Edenic'. 2 A bird that's lying by the road and has been savaged by a fox. Usually tends to be a pigeon. 3 Not to be confused with 'legless', which is Chunki after about half a pint of beer.

Healey, Mark - n. [MARK HEE-lee] A senior artist at Lionhead Studios.

Houghton, Janice - n. [JANN-iss HOFF-ton] She's the woman behind keeping Lionhead Studios together with her office management skills.

i like titans! - n. [I LIKE TYT-uns!] Deranged and incredibly misunderstood writer of unknown origin with a diseased brain.

Inanimate Carbon Rod Titan - n. [IN-Ann-imm-ate CARR-bonn ROD TYE-tun] Despite being inanimate and carbon, the Inanimate Carbon Rod Titan remains a popular request to Lionhead.

Intrepid - n. [in-TREPP-id] A satellite developer of Lionhead's.

Irwin, Ben - n. [BENN ERR-win] One of the youngest on Lionhead's team; Adds the finishing touches to the artwork and does a bit of his own.

Jackson, Steve - n. [STEEV JAK-sonn] Talented writer who's writing the story behind Black & White. Also handles some of Lionhead's business affairs and is sometimes thought to be Peter Molyneux's right-hand man.

Japanese - n. [JAP-ann-eez] A tribe from Eden that specialise in illusionary magic.

Jeremy, Giles - n. [GI-alls JE-remmy] One of Lionhead's many programmers that's beavering away.

Lao-Tzu - n. [Don't even try] 1 Quirky Black & White fansite. 2 Ancient Chinese philosopher.

Leach, James - n. [JAYMZ LEECH] Black & White's script writer. Thinks up quests and writes the dialogue.

leash - n. [LEESH] 1 Something you can attach to a titan that will aid you in demonstrating what you want him to do. 2 Frequently used by sado-masochists for foreplay and, of course, walking the dog.

Lionhead Studios - n. [LI-on-hed STOO-de-ohs] 1 Surrey UK based computer games developer 2 Breed of rabbit with distinctive beard.

Ludlow, Aaron - n. [ARR-un LUD-low] Quality assurance guy for Black & White. In other words, a beta tester.

Mad Fruit - n. [MAD FROOT] 1 A forum moderator for Lionhead Studios 2 A schizophrenic banana (sometimes a melon).

Malcolm, Ken - n. [KENN MALL-colm] A level designer for Black & White.

McLaughlin, Paul - n. [PAUL MAC-glok-lin] Head of art, which of course means he's an artist too.

miracle - n. [MIR-a-kel] The correct name for what the community commonly refers to as a 'spell'. Misguided fools.

morph - v. [MORF] 1 In the game 'Black & White' your hand, terrain and creature morph to reflect your alignment; By that, it means they change appearance with no obvious seam or transition. 2 'The Mighty Morphing Power Rangers' can do it in style. "MEGAZORD!" "RAAAAHH!!" 3 A cute little plasticine man popularised by British television.

Molyneux, Peter - n. [PEE-terr MOLL-ee-noo] Critically acclaimed software developer and Managing Director of Lionhead Studios.

Nettleton, Paul - n. [PAUL NETTLE-ton] When Black & White's programmers and artists need tools to aid in Black & White completion, he's the man that makes them.

Newbie - n. adj. [NOO-bee] 1 Often innocent and unsuspecting person seeking knowledge about something of which he/she knows very little. 2 Someone who gets bashed and insulted just for the hell of it and is prone to crying. 3 Sam.

newbie-basher - n. [NOO-bee BASH-err] Someone who stares at a newbie RADAR, and when one appears on forums, tears the offended limb from limb; Quite often tend to be newbies themselves.

Nicolas - n. [NICK-o-lass] Benchmark for all newbie-basher wannabies; His tactics include using long words, philosophy, technical terms, an air of sophistication, arrogance and copying and pasting large chunks from Encarta; Average time for newbie to recover after Nicolas encounter is almost 7 months.

Norse - n. [NORSS] A tribe from Eden that specialise in war mongering, they have the skeleton army spell.

peanut butter sandwiches - n. [PEE-nut BUTT-err SAND-witches] Peter Molyneux expresses an intense dislike for this type of food.

PKlein - n. [Pee Kline] A person who is often the butt of community jokes; Examples include 'X1 slaps X2 around a bit with a PKlein', where 'X1' is the person doing the slapping, and 'X2' is the person being slapped; Also worthy of note is PKlein's infamous quote "learn to tye newbie!".

power-up - v. [POW-err-up] The act of using Black & White's gesture system to enhance a spell's power.

Purkiss, Ollie - n. [OLL-ee PURR-kiss] Lionhead programmer; Dabbles mostly into what the villagers in Black & White do.

Rance, Tim - n. [TIMM RANCE] Black & White programmer who specialises in creating all the tools and libraries.

release date - n. [RE-leez DAYT] 1 The time a computer game is scheduled for release into the public realm. 2 A fictional concept that exists inside the minds of the desperate masses and overly-optimistic developers.

Roberts, Scawen - n. [SCORN ROB-erts] Lionhead turn to this man for Black & White's physics e.g. rolling rocks and ricochets.

Robson, Andy - n. [ANN-dee ROB-sonn] Lionhead Studio's head of testing; abbrv. 'Robbo'; likes playing squash and scaring people.

Sam - n. [SAM] A newbie-in-denial; Bashes other newbies to disguise his own newbieness; Has now become some peace loving pacifist; Definitely a volatile person; AVOID.

satellite - n. [SAT-eh-lite] 1 A small developer that is aided in game development by Lionhead Studios. 2 A celestial body that orbits a planet. 3 Secret space-faring equipment launched by NASA that will ultimately destroy all fast-food chains in Lithuania.

screenshots, Black & White - n. [SKREEN-shots] 1 Gorgeous formations of pixels captured from inside the game Black & White 2 Prozac (chem. name 'fluoxetine') substitute for Black & White junkies.

scroll - n. [SKROLE] 1 Black & White entity used to display quests and other missions; Comes in three flavours, bronze, silver and gold.

Scrozzy - n. [SCROZZ-ee] 1 Anglo-Teutonic pharmacist and Lao-Tzu staff member. 2 Slang term meaning 'scrotum'.

Shaw, Russel - n. [RUSS-ell SHORE] Black & White's sound developer. Creates all sound effects and music; Has a nice office.

slave of hatred, The - n. [SLAVE-of-HAY-tred] 1 The unofficial B&W community mascot. 2 Worldly cynicism moulded into human form. 3 Not the person to talk to if you're interested in joining a clan/krew.

Smethurst, Nathan n. [NAY-thann SMETH-hurst] Assitant to Andy Robson in testing Black & White for flaws and gameplay issues.

spank - v. [SPANK] 1 To hit a titan with your hand. EXP: The first videos of 'Black & White' showed an ape titan being hit by a hand, which was soon related to the phrase 'spanking the monkey', which is slang for you-know-what.

spell - n. [SPELL] 1 Sometimes referred to as 'miracle' and is the act of casting magic. 2 Something i like titans! clearly can't do.

Sphere of Influence - n. [SFEER-of-IN-FLOO-ence] abbrv. SoI, the territory that you control in Black & White, anything outside of your SoI cannot be interacted with by the hand.

spoon - n. [SPOON] 1 Contrary to popular belief, there is no spoon. 2 A stupid person. 3 A guy called 'Munkaboo'.

Surrey - n. [SUR-ree] A county located in the UK that is south west of London and is home of Lionhead Studios.

Stormdancer - n. [STORM-darnce-er] Semi-feared newbie-basher. His tactics include being persistent and to the point. Average time for newbie to recover after Stormdancer encounter is only 3 weeks.

Studios, Black & White - n. [STOO-de-oze] A software development house established by Lionhead Studios to persue Black & White's release by creating addons, patches and new additions to enhance the game even more; Also rumoured to be the guys who'll be responsible for 'Black & White II'.

Tales, Black & White - n. [TAYLES] The name that Black & White's single player game is referred to as.

tattoo - n. [TAT-oo] 1 A 64x64 pixel sized bitmap image that can be marked onto a titan for decorative purposes. 2 A permanent design of a marijuana leaf on a hippy's bottom that's marked on there by a process of pricking and ingraining an indelible pigment.

temple - n. [TEM-pel] 1 Another name for a citadel. 2 You need to live in one of these to avoid being preyed upon by Jehovah's Witnesses.

Tibetans - n. [TIB-ett-uns] A mystical tribe from Eden.

titan - n. [TY-tun] 1 A large and magical beast that's controlled by the Gods who inhabit Eden. 2 Officially an incorrect name for 'creature'. 3 Chunki's ego.

Transform & Lighting - n. [TRANS-form and LITE-ing] abbrv. T&L, Technology used in Black & White's engine to aid slower processors. EXP: Traditionally a computer's 3D accelerator card did the last 2 steps in creating a 3D image ('triangle setup' and 'rendering'), now some cards (e.g. GeForce) do the first two steps also (transform and lighting), this takes the burden off the computer's processor leaving it free for other duties such as network code.

tribe - n. [TRIBE] 1 A collective of villagers with common ethnic and ancestral roots that reside in Eden. 2 Some naked people who live in the Amazon rainforest.

Universe, Black & White: - n. [YOO-nee-verss] 1 A much speculated concept for Black & White that will allow hundreds of people at a time to connect to a massive and constant world to battle it out. 2 A place that's quite large, I keep forgetting where it is though.

Webley, Mark - n. [MARK WEBB-lee] Programmer and also directs projects related to Black & White; lent his deceased hampster's name to the company.

Worlds, Black & White - n. [WURLDS] The name given to the muiltiplayer mode in Black & White.

worm titan - n. [WURM TIE-tun] A much requested titan by newbies; inspired after seeing Peter Molyneux's demonstration of a worm in an apple.
